We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join a dynamic engineering consultancy in Central London. Our client is looking for someone who is ready to take on challenging projects within the transport and infrastructure sectors, with flexibility in working arrangements (full-time or part-time) to suit personal needs and commitments.

About the Role
In this role, you will lead the design, technical analysis, modelling, and reporting on a variety of highways, streets, and transport infrastructure projects. As a Principal Civil Engineer, you will use your technical expertise to drive the successful delivery of schemes, whilst ensuring compliance with relevant design standards. You will also mentor junior engineers, offering guidance and support as they progress in their careers.
You will be the primary point of contact for clients, managing a broad portfolio of projects, and taking a proactive role in business development by building and nurturing client relationships. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to represent the company at conferences, seminars, and networking events.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver civil engineering design for a wide range of infrastructure projects.
- Perform technical analysis and reporting for highways, urban streets, and transport schemes.
- Ensure projects meet quality, budget, and time targets while adhering to relevant design standards.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers, providing them with opportunities for growth and professional development.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, supporting business development efforts.
- Represent the company at industry events and contribute to new business opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with the wider team to drive innovation and efficiency across projects.
Who You Are
- A self-starter with a passion for transport and infrastructure engineering.
- A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or close to achieving this status) with a Civil Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Experienced in leading and managing civil engineering projects, particularly in the areas of urban streets, highways, and public realm schemes.
- Proficient in software such as Civils3D, AutoCAD, and ideally OpenRoads or MicroStation.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
- A proactive team player with a drive for innovation and excellence.
- Experienced in overseeing project delivery, managing client expectations, and mentoring team members.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with traffic management, construction logistics, and surface/sub-surface drainage design.
- Familiarity working in BIM environments.
- On-site experience, including knowledge of scheme implementation and inspections.
- Experience in supporting the delivery of S278 projects.
