Senior / Principal Civil Engineer – Southampton – First class package

We are on the lookout for a talented and motivated Senior / Principal Infrastructure Engineer to join our client's award-winning team in the Solent Office. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the creation of sustainable, innovative developments for a diverse range of clients across various sectors in the UK.

The role
The ideal candidate will come from a Engineering Consultancy or Developer background and be able to demonstrates a firm grasp of the design and delivery of highways and drainage schemes here in the UK.  You will demonstrate a passion for delivering high-quality civil design services, thinking creatively, and working collaboratively to develop practical, inventive solutions to the challenges of land development. 

We're seeking an individual with leadership experience who excels at managing both projects and teams, while also demonstrating hands-on technical expertise in design and documentation.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering or related field, with 5+ years of relevant post-graduate experience. Chartered or Incorporated status with a professional body (e.g., ICE) is ideal.
  • Proven ability to lead the production of highway engineering, drainage engineering, and infrastructure schemes for development projects.
  • Experience in an independent leadership role on major projects, including managing and prioritising the workload for junior team members.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical drawings and calculations for private and adoptable arrangements, following relevant design codes and standards.
  • Experience with obtaining ordinary watercourse consent from watercourse bodies.
  • Experience in securing technical approvals from key authorities is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of best practice and industry guidelines, including experience in highway and drainage design (e.g., Manual for Streets, DMRB, CIRIA SuDS Manual, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Local Authority standards).
  • Numerate and proficient with software such as AutoCAD, Civils3D, or similar 3D modelling software.
  • Familiarity with drainage modelling software like MicroDrainage is a plus.
  • Experience managing non-technical project aspects, including financials, scheduling, and resource allocation, as well as client-facing responsibilities.
  • A background in consultancy/private sector development, especially in the private sector, is preferred.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • A full driving license and access to a car.
